2015 Update—October 26th to November 6th

I attended a dinner in Dover on Monday the 26th with a doctor Dr. Bernard Hammes, from the Gundersen Health System, which has done an incredible job in providing their community with the very best in advanced care planning. On Tuesday the 27th I went to the White House to meet with White House staff and with legislators from other states to discuss efforts to reduce gun violence. That evening I attended the quarterly meeting of the Citizens Advisory Council for the White Clay Creek State Park. On Wednesday I attended a portion of the Vision Coalition conference at UD’s Clayton Hall. On Friday I attended the quarterly meeting of the Greater Newark Interagency Council at the Newark Senior Center, and afterwards I taped two segments of the Comcast Newsmakers program. That evening I attended a community event at the UD’s STAR campus which celebrated its history, honoring past Chrysler’s workers, and highlighting the center’s future.

This Sunday the 1st I attended my campaign’s fundraiser at Caffe’ Gelato, and afterwards, attended the Diwali celebration hosted by the Delaware Asian American Business Association in New Castle. On Monday evening I first attended the weekly meeting of the UD College Democrats and then attended the monthly meeting of the 23rd Representative District Democratic Committee. On Tuesday I attended and addressed the Governor’s Advisory Council on Services for Aging and Adults with Physical Disabilities, discussing my Aid-in-Dying legislation, and in my efforts to establish a Delaware End of Life Advisory Council. That evening I participated in a panel on Delaware’s state government budget at the Lewes Library. On Wednesday morning I hosted my monthly coffee at Panera Bread. Afterwards I met with members of the board of the Newark Country Club, and after that I met with a woman who has applied to move into the Alder Creek community and with members of Alder Creek’s management to identify stumbling blocks. On Thursday the 5th I attended the meeting in Dover of the Delaware Health Care Commission, which agreed to create a workgroup to research and likely propose the establishment of a Delaware End of Life Advisory Council. I have been named to serve on this workgroup. That evening I attended a debate between UD College Democrats and UD College Republicans, at Mitchell hall. On Friday I attended a meeting to help organize a summit to be held on February 11th, at which those who provide services to the area’s homeless are invited to attend. That afternoon I met with a member of the Governor’s staff to discuss criminal justice and housing issues.

I worked with DelDOT on signage, construction, potholes, and bus route changes.

I have worked with the Department of Education on concerns with the Delaware MET charter school, with the upcoming school accountability rating system

I have reached out to see if we could assist an impoverished resident who is near death, and will be in need of burial services.

I have worked with the City of Newark on issues including the closing of the Fairfield Superfresh, and improving cyclist/pedestrian safety on/near Main Street.
