Update—August 24th to September 7th

On Sunday August 25th I knocked on doors in Country Place, to find out top issues. In addition to the CSX/Casho Mill underpass, a leading issue is drainage/stormwater runoff. I Monday I helped move 5 tons of food from pallets into the Hudson Service Center, to help provide food for 200 families in need in the greater Newark area. On Wednesday I attended the installation of a Delaware Historical Marker noting the history of the New London Road Community. Afterwards I had a site visit at Country Place with city and county officials to explore the stormwater issue I heard about on Sunday. That evening I attended the monthly meeting of the 23rd RD Democratic Committee. On Thursday the 29th I attended the UD/DSU football game at the UD football stadium. On Friday I had a meeting with health experts to discuss the opioid crisis. That afternoon I attended a meeting with DNREC/Parks to discuss outstanding issues with the White Clay Creek State Park draft master plan. On Saturday I attended the 1st annual School Hill Community Celebration at the George Wilson Center.

On Labor Day I attended the AFL-CIO parade in Wilmington, the AFSCME Picnic at Banning Park, and the Beatles tribute band concert at White Clay Creek State Park. On Tuesday the 3rd in the evening I attended the first Community Bike Day at Handloff Park. On Wednesday morning I hosted my monthly constituent coffee at the Greene Turtle, and then co-chaired the local service fee task force at the New Castle County Government offices. On Thursday I attended a DelDOT meeting with Main Street merchants to discuss the construction project. I then had a conference call to discuss a constituent’s difficulties working with Social Security and Delaware Medicaid. That evening I attended the quarterly meeting of the Chapel Hill/West Meadow civic association. On Friday evening I attended and spoke at the 25th anniversary celebration of UD’s Physical Therapy program on the STAR campus.

Emails—There have been emails on roads/DelDOT matters. These include the CSX/Casho Mill Underpass, the four way stop at Hopkins/Thompson Station Roads, the one-day closure of Pleasant Valley Road, the upcoming Capital Transportation Program Public Hearings later this month, potholes on Thompson Station Road, signal light timing at Casho & Barksdale Roads, next year’s replacement of a culvert under Paper Mill Road north of Possum Park Road, about the intersection of Chapel & Wyoming Roads, about the ability of a Delaware resident to lease a Tesla, and managing vegetation along the public right of way along Possum Park Road.

There have been emails regarding DNREC/Parks issues. These include emails on the draft master plan, including the big pond proposal, the Kranz Hill farm, and the yard waste site on Polly Drummond.

I have had emails related to city matters, including unlicensed commercial solicitation in the city.

There have been emails on a wide range of issues, including a constitutional amendment convention of the states, gun violence prevention efforts, a resident’s difficulties in receiving surviving spouse benefits from the VA, about charter school performance system-wide, a drainage issue for a resident of Fairfield Crest, about my cosponsorship of the new bill to permit restaurants to allow dogs in outdoor seating areas, about interpreters for government meetings with residents who are deaf or who do not speak English, about a federal Medicare program change to reduce coverage for some cardiac PET facility services, about down trees on Maclary Elementary School’s property, and about cell coverage ‘deserts.’

I have been working to sort out problems that a local resident is having with Social Security and Medicaid. This has involved many calls, lots of emails, and some visits.

I have worked on trying to line up state-wide (and national-level) attendees, including the Governor and members of Congress, at upcoming events in the Newark area this fall.
