Know what to expect when you vote

Carry this with you on Election Day

Know what to expect when you vote.  The following informational handout has been developed by the League of Women Voters to help you through the voting process.

Carry this with you on Election Day (printable PDF in English and Spanish)

  • Arrive at your assigned polling place between 7 am – and before 8 pm.
  • If you have previously voted and your name is on the poll list, no identification is necessary and you must be allowed to vote.
  • If you registered by mail or you are a firsttime voter, you will be asked for a non-photo ID with your name and current address such as your polling card, an envelope, or a bill. No photo ID is required in Delaware.
  • If your name is not on the poll list, it is the responsibility of the poll worker to call the Department of Elections at that time and find out the reason why. If you are registered in another polling place, they will direct you to it.
  • If your name does not appear on any poll list and you have registered, you may complete a provisional ballot which will be counted if it is established that you are registered. Provisional ballots are good only for federal positions, i.e., President and United States Senator or Representative.
  • Should any difficulties occur at the polling place, request help from the poll workers. They are there to assist you with the process.
  • Should you be denied the right to vote or feel you were treated badly or felt intimidated by your encounter, obtain the name of the poll worker involved and report this to the Department of Elections :
